This is self-care education, not a diagnosis

Every programme and clip on the patient side is educational material for looking after yourself at home. It is not an examination, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan made for you. The same pain can come from very different causes, and only a doctor or physiotherapist examining you in person can tell you what it is.

If you are pregnant, recently had surgery, or live with a chronic condition, talk to your doctor before starting. Stop straight away if a movement causes sharp or unusual pain.

Stop the programme and see a doctor if you have any of these
  • Pain that keeps getting worse, or wakes you almost every night
  • Numbness, weakness, an arm you cannot lift, or a leg you cannot stand on
  • A joint that is swollen, red and hot, or a fever with it
  • A recent fall or accident, and you cannot move the joint or it looks out of shape
  • Three to four weeks on the programme with no improvement at all
  • Losing weight without trying to

For sudden severe symptoms, call 1669 or go to the nearest emergency room.
